Longtime Sun Yoga was founded in 2011 by Rachel Towers, RYT, to offer Kripalu Yoga and spiritual sadhana (practice) to residents in the New York City Metropolitan Area. Named after the third chakra (manipura) and the power and courage we find in our solar plexis center to change ourselves and our lives for the better, Longtime Sun offers private and group yoga instruction throughout the Hudson Valley and the 5 boroughs of New York City.
Over the past six years, Rachel has studied all different types of yoga – Hatha, Vinyasa, Iyengar, Kundalini, Ashtanga, Restorative and many others – but her true passion lies in the Kripalu tradition, based deeply in the concepts of self-compassion, witness consciousness, and a deep attention to prana, the life force, as well as principles of alignment.
Rachel has extensive experience in technique, teaching methodology, and practicum for asana, pranayama and meditation. She has also engaged in deep study on yogic philosophy, anatomy and physiology, and professional ethics. She has taught individuals in-home as well as groups in the New York City public school system, and has taught in various studios, gyms and community centers in the New York Metropolitan area.
Rachel’s dream is to one day evolve Longtime Sun Yoga into a destination yoga retreat center where like-minded individuals can come together to practice yoga, deepen self-study, and live a holistic health experience within her home that nurtures the body, mind and soul while visiting an exotic location away from home.
